What is the most secure way to use Onion Browser on iPhone?

The Tor site recommends the Onion Browser (Can I run Tor Browser on an iOS device? | Tor Project | Support). for use on an iPhone. Is it safer to use Onion Browser for iPhone with or without Orbot?

I installed “Onion Browser” on the iPhone. It asked me if I wanted to use it with or without Orbot. It suggested that using Orbot is preferable. However, I looked at the reviews first, and many were complaining about Orbot.

So is there a “correct answer” regarding how to use Onion Browser on the iPhone?

I have tested it without Orbot and my IP is that of an exit node. But maybe I should be using Orbot?

Onion Browser will not work without Orbot if your iOS version is older than 17.
With iOS 17 and newer you can absolutely use Onion Browser without Orbot.
Also Onion Browser supports pluggable transports while Orbot for iOS doesn’t.
