I have onion services installed on my server and have no problem accessing my files and even listing to music (although there is some buffering). but I can’t play video files. I have the option to use the default celluloid or my installed vlc. but after I select nothing happens, even if the program is already open, I can download the file then watch it but that isn’t always practical.

What do you mean? You can play both video and audio files in the browser.
