[virustotal] I got 5 warnings with VirusTotal. Is tor-browser really safe?

Hello. I have a question for the developers.

I downloaded the officially distributed binary (Windows version) from Tor’s website. And scanned PluggableTransports/conjure-client.exe with VirusTotal, then I got the malware warnings from 5 vendors.
(The Version is 13.0.9)

Link to results:.

Note: No warnings detected from the distributed binaries themselves (e.g., tor-browser-windows-x86_64-portable-13.0.9.exe).

Other executables in the same PluggableTransports directory also have several warnings, I suppose 1-2 warnings could be false positives, but 5 warnings from 5 different vendors seems a bit much.

Is Tor Browser really safe?

P.S.
The signature file was good, but auto-import from website did not work.

Not a developer.

Tor Browser is safe, as long as you download it from the official website. I’ve been using the Mac version for ~1 year now.

But hey. I’m just a random person on the internet. If you still don’t trust Tor Browser/Tor itself, that’s okay! You don’t have to use the software if you find it suspicious.

No, not much.
Such vendors just use AI to guess if binary contains malware.
And AI makes incorrect conclusions very often.

It is better to look at detections by high quality products like Kaspersky and DrWeb and if results are green there, most likely, binary is fine.
