Unstable deb.torproject.org (SSL errors)

Hi,

Update the Debian / Ubuntu packages seems flacky lately. While sometimes I do get a valid response back, more often I also get a SSL error (SSL certificate problem).

Here the output of an apt update command:

Err:5 Index of /torproject.org mantic InRelease
Certificate verification failed: The certificate is NOT trusted. The certificate issuer is unknown. Could not handshake: Error in the certificate verification

Here a curl output:

curl https://deb.torproject.org/torproject.org/dists/mantic/InRelease
curl: (60) SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate
More details here: curl - SSL CA Certificates

curl failed to verify the legitimacy of the server and therefore could not
establish a secure connection to it. To learn more about this situation and
how to fix it, please visit the web page mentioned above.

It’s important to note, it’s not always triggering this issue via curl. So it seems that some of the proxies you’re using have an invalid TLS certificate. Please check our infrastructure!

Regards,
Melroy

Hi,
I also had this exact same problem 3 days ago, on my raspberry pi 5, and yesterday i found out what was the problem.
It happen that I changed my DNS to opendns and it blocks torproject sites.
Just change the DNS on your router or in your system to cloudflare or something and GG.
