Tor should have a reset all settings button

Like a button to permanantely reset everything, all permissions all configs all website data. Literally everything so it goes back to normal.

I messed up the configuration settings on tor and on Apple, it saves your application data which is really stupid. So even after I reinstall tor, it still has my tor configuration data saved. It’s really annoying as some websites do not work.

Hi @ihaveonequestion, the “Refresh Tor Browser” button should remove your extensions, customizations and restart Tor Browser. You can find this option by visiting about:support in the address bar or by following these instructions from Firefox.

However, there are caveats:

  • By design, it won’t delete certain types of saved data like bookmarks, passwords or autofill data (or presumably profiles either).
  • Restarting Tor Browser should result in your browsing data being reset as part of the process, however I’m unsure if any prior changes you’ve made to your browser configuration will affect this.
  • As the link above implies, this feature has been inherited from Firefox, and I have not thoroughly tested it myself. As such, I can not promise that it will work perfectly

Alternatively: if you’re okay with wiping everything in Tor Browser (and I mean everything, including profiles, bookmarks, passwords etc too), there is a more thorough course of action you can take.

Within your Application Support folder will be a subfolder called TorBrowser-Data. If you close Tor Browser and delete this folder, your next session will be identical to a fresh installation.

Application Support can usually be found by following these instructions:

  1. Open Finder and click Go in the menu bar.
  2. Hold down the option key to reveal Library, and select this item.
  3. Find and double-click the Application Support folder.

:warning: Warning: do not delete the Application Support folder itself, or any other folder besides TorBrowser-Data, otherwise you may have a bad time. Since we will not be able to provide support if something goes wrong, this is a “proceed at your own risk” kind of thing.

Good luck!
