- I gathered stats from bug reports to verify that our new idea
(credits: sajolida) makes sense wrt. reporting errors about the
partition table, partition header, and resizing. We plan to start
designing and implementing in October.
My focus in October was: KTLO, streamlining processes, removing
busywork, and making stuff clearer, more robust & more predictable.
Accounting
We've been making good progress on transitioning away from the former
Tails fiscal sponsorship arrangements into Tails' new nest, the Tor
project. There's still a bunch of things to wrap up, loose ends that
need to be tied up, but I'm hopeful we should be done with the bulk of
the work (at least as far as I am concerned!) by the end of the year.
Team lead
- Worked with sajolida on estimating how much work (dev, UX) it would
take for Tails to take to catch up with anti-censorship tech
(Snowflake, WebTunnel, Meek, Circumvention Settings API). We hope to
get funding to do this work in 2026. And maybe some of it in 2025
but don't get too excited.
- Moved most Tails Team doc to a new public wiki, to make
collaboration with other teams & PMs smoother. I have plans to go
further on this path but chances are this has to wait until 2025Q1. Tails Team · Wiki · tails / team · GitLab
- More generally, as a team lead, since July I'm still doing lots of
work to migrate away from Tails' previous setup, but the dust is
slowly starting to settle.
I took 1.5 week off for personal reasons mid-November.
The work time & energy I had left was barely enough to do most of the
usual day-to-day work that's not worth reporting about, hence this
slim report.

============
I prepared a short talk for the State of the Onion, then recorded it
in highly challenging circumstances. I'm happy with the script,
I think the slides are good ~enough, and the actual delivery has lots
of margin for improvement.
User-invisible
I did the usual amount of KTLO work; nothing worth highlighting
this month.
Team lead
I've been working, together with a number of other Tor folks from my
team and other teams, on a large grant proposal. This was the
opportunity for me to discover the workflows and tooling used by Tor
in this area, and gain some familiarity with it.
Accounting
We've been making some more progress on transitioning away from the
former Tails fiscal sponsorship arrangements into Tails' new nest, the
Tor project.
Cheers,

I was on vacation during the last 1.5 week of the year, hence this
slim report.

============
I reviewed and supported the work of my team-mates on a number of high
priority user-visible improvements.

Apart of the usual amount of KTLO work:
- Migrated our Upgrader's signature verification from GnuPG to Sequoia SOP
- Fixed a few security vulnerabilities identified by an ongoing
security audit.
Team lead
I've kicked off the second year of our ongoing grant (Project 165).
I've kept working, together with a number of other Tor folks from my
team and other teams, on a large grant proposal. This was the
opportunity for me to discover the workflows and tooling used by Tor
in this area, and gain some familiarity with it.
We've booked time in January, with our team & sajolida, to work on our
priorities for 2025. We also booked time to do a team retrospective.
Accounting
We've kept making slow but steady progress on transitioning away from
the former Tails fiscal sponsorship arrangements into Tails' new nest,
the Tor project.

- I have automated some Git operations that were previously done
manually every time we merged changes into our main
development branch.
- I have fixed several vulnerabilities that were found by Radically
Open Security as part of their recent security audit of Tails.
Sadly, some of them were similar to those found during their
previous audit. We want to learn from this, stay tuned!
- I created automation that ensures we won't reintroduce 1 of the
types of vulnerability that were found during this audit.
Team lead
- We, the Tails Team, have been working on our priorities for 2025
together with sajolida (UX). I'll publish a cleaned up
version shortly.
- I've learned how the grant reporting process works at Tor.
- I've deleted or updated public documentation for Tails contributors
that was made obsolete by the merge with Tor.
Accounting
I've reviewed partial books from 1 of Tails' previous fiscal sponsors,
as part of the transition to Tails' new nest, the Tor project.

Apart of the usual amount of KTLO work:
- I have upgraded AppArmor to 4.1 in Debian in time for the freeze
of Trixie.
- We've met with a number of stakeholders to figure out the strategy
for Tails comms this year, and how we're going to transition the
existing Tails comms tools & processes now that we're part of Tor.
- I've met with Freedom of the Press Foundation staff in order to
support their efforts to add Dangerzone to Debian, in a way that
will make it easier to use this tool in Tails.
- The Tails Team had a post-mortem of our last security audit and
identified a few low-hanging fruits that we can pick in order to
avoid introducing similar vulnerabilities again in the future.
- I have uplifted a few ideas from my team to the operations team.
Accounting & Fundraising
- I have helped with the process of closing Tails' donation
infrastructure and merging it into Tor's.
