im on windows 11 using 0.4.8.16
for a few months now, ive been unable to use the tor browser, because it closes without even giving an error message after only a few seconds.
ive only seen a few people report the same problem, and the solutions they found did not work.
ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling, also installing different versions. ive rebooted my pc and even deleted my antivirus software, and ive checked my timezone and ensured that the file path contains only ascii characters.
I think nina13 means on the Desktop meaning the folder is on the desktop and so is the Start Tor Browser icon.
I assume you downloaded the install from the Tor site (here) and you verified the checksum.
I see from the version 0.4.8.16 you probably did not download the Windows install but did it some other way
When reinstalling, delete any and all folders from any previous install.
I’m on Windows 11 also running Tor Browser 14.5.2
Here are the checksums
Name: tor.exe
Size: 8979968 bytes (8769 KiB)
SHA256: fe6d44cb69780e09c3a39f499e0e668bff9aa54b6cd9f363b753d59af713bea0
well dont i feel stupid. i had removed my antivirus entirely a while ago because i suspected that it might be what was causing the trouble. i also thought that i had turned off windows firewall protection but no, i had turned off app and browser control.
sorry for wasting your time, and thanks a lot for making me go double check. appreciate it. <3
