Tor Browser and Startpage: Problem with Anonymity-Function

Hello!

As some who use Tor and Startpage together may have already noticed, the anonymisation function in Startpage has not been working for about two weeks when used with Tor. This means that a significant number of websites cannot be viewed anonymously, as many websites block Tor for inexplicable reasons.

I testes it on different systems.

The error message reads as follows:

Anonymous View Error

Looks like service workers are disabled. Anonymous View requires service workers to tunnel your request and to prevent your IP address from being leaked. Please enable them and try again.

Some ways you can try to re-enable service workers include:

Adjust your browser settings to allow service workers (for example, dom.serviceWorkers.enabled in Firefox's about:config settings).

Try disabling extensions one at a time to see if one might be blocking service workers.

Failed to establish AV Tunnel: AV Tunnel unsupported (Service Workers required)

My questions are:

  1. With the latest Tor updates, has anything been changed in such a way that it negatively affects Startpage and its anonymisation function?

  2. How risky is to change “dom.ServiceWorkers, enabled” to “true”?

If so, it would be sensible to re-enable the corresponding feature so that Tor and Startpage can be used together.

  1. How can the problem be solved? Does anyone have experience and ideas on this?

  2. How likely is it that this is intentionally blocked by malicious groups to trick someone into misconfiguring Tor and making it more vulnerable?

I consider this an important and debatable issue in every respect.

Thank you very much for your opinions and suggestions!
