I’m trying to host a Onion service (I’m new to this), I’ve followed the tutorial available here, so far so good.
However, the Op-sec section advises to use Vanguards for additional protection. But its GitHub repository shows that the last commit was made back in October 2023.
Is the project abandoned/outdated or is it still a good idea to use it ?

Unfortunately, the original vanguards project has been abandoned. However, this doesn’t mean it’s no longer operational or effective; the fundamental principles of the Tor network haven’t changed over the years, and vanguards still protects against sophisticated attacks.
However, please note that vanguards is currently completely incompatible with conflux. Therefore, you will need to either avoid using Tor on your server for anything other than website hosting or disable conflux via the torrc parameter.
(ConfluxEnable 0) This has no impact on security.
According to the Tor project blog, a newer version of vanguards will only be available once arti becomes a full-fledged replacement for Tor.
