Received Tor-Targeted VPS Offer - MAXKO Hosting

Hi all,

I received an email to the email I list in my relays contactinfo section, and it was from a company called MAXKO Hosting (Full Email Below) and thought it was just a bit odd.
Basically the email mentioned even a 10% Tor discount code for Tor relays and a lot of other stuff just selling why to choose them for Tor relays.

Now, I’m not jumping to any conclusions but whilst it looks like good targeted marketing it also is slightly odd and makes me lean in the direction of away from them given that they are specifically targeting Tor relay operators here and trying to get relays on their network (could lead to Timing attacks, traffic sniffing, whatever).

If anyone knows anything about this feel free to reply!

Stay safe,

Got one myself too. A couple days ago.

Peaked my interest until I saw the prices lol.

After looking into it more I’ve realized https://quetzalcoatl-relays.org/ uses them a lot for their exit relays. By searching the AS numbers provided it checks out. Additionally they are officially on Tor Project | Relay Associations … So I’d conclude with this that the provider is legit. Although still, with their prices I won’t be able to try them out for myself.

Quetzalcoatl and I hosted some relays with them this spring, both is South Africa and Bosnia - I gave up after 2 months as they wouldn’t email proton mail accounts, there seemed to be an attempt to up the price for one reason after another. The only thing they were responsive to was their chat, which is how I got my two servers set up. I got an advertizing email from them as you did, however; I just thought they had my email because I had given it to them when setting things up.
In the end, I was getting about 400-500 Mib/day throughput for $18 Euro/mo. Ipv6 went down for 5 or 6 days once, then another full day a month later. I don’t know if this was their issue or just shaky ipv6 connectivity in South Africa. I don’t think that the throughput would ever get much greater than that because the connectivity to the bwauths just isn’t that great. Though I’d really like to see greater geographical dispersion of the Tor network beyond Europe and the U.S.
