Hello
I tried to access Musk’s AI chat model (https://grok.com/) via Tor Browser. Contrary to expectations, I got the following message: ‘This service is not available in your region.’
What does this mean?
A) Is this website deliberately set up so that it cannot be used with the Tor browser?
B) Is it due to the browser configuration?
C) Did I use the Tor browser incorrectly?
D) Is there a workaround how I can still use ‘https://grok.com/’ via Tor Browser?
I would be pleased to receive an answer. Thank you very much.
I think its “A”. A lot of sites do that or make it such an inconvenience to use the site that you’ll just use your regular internet. Facebook and Twitter both bombard you with captas. Google barely works. I’ve had st switch search engines.
I concur with @22ozProphet, almost all Tor exit nodes seem to be blocked, independent of the browser used. However, after a little experimentation, nodes on a particular subnet seemed to be an exception. I was able to use grok.com with Tor Browser (see screenshot) by adding ExitNodes 185.220.101.128/25 to my torrc file.
This was a proof of concept, if for some reason you have no choice but to use Grok and it should be noted that your anonymity may be compromised by doing this. Any such configuration should be removed and Tor Browser restarted before navigating to any other sites, so as to restore Tor Browser’s default settings.
There seem to be other more privacy friendly alternatives if you don’t have to use grok.com.
