Hi, currently I run a OBFS4 Bride on a vServer with more or less just some personal stuff running. Due to the latest News from Russia I thought about co-using a website for Meek or WebTunnel instead of OBFS.
Are there any preferences on your site about which to prefer? I personally technically tend towards meek. Is a Meek/WebTunnel-Bridge even beneficial if your website is unknown in Russia?
Also I want to ask: Are there minimal requirements for bridges in therms of
speed
monthly bandwidth
the other content on that domain
to be a real help in real-life? Then I will think about other Websites of mine or of friends that might also be suited for that purpose.
A static IPv4 address (preferred)
A self-hosted website
A valid SSL/TLS certificate (e.g., Let's Encrypt)
Bandwidth usage: at least 1 TB/month, but more is recommendable.
But check your /var/lib/tor/stats/bridge-stats first. Maybe you still have multiple users from Russia who are fine with your current setup…
If I’m correct, it’s not suggested that users set up meek bridges themselves.
There is already a built-in one that uses the Azure CDN. Even if users build meek bridges themselves, meek bridges are still slow because of the protocol itself.
Build a Webtunnel bridge. They are disguised as normal HTTP traffic and aren’t easy to block too. I, who live behind the GFW, use the Webtunnel bridge daily (I have a overseas VPS and set up a V2Ray proxy there. All onion traffic through the proxy will be routed to the Tor network, which is another way of me connecting to Tor) and it was working well.
Thanks! But what are the downsides of running a Domainfronting Bridge instead of a WebTunnel bridge? Not on a CDN Level, but just with a small website? I guess there won’t be much difference.
I still have most of the connections from RU, so I will monitor that and migrate at a later point. In case of possibly new bridges, they will be Meek/WebTunnel ones.
