As Tor/Tails now has a different/closer relationship according to PR in the past, there should be a Tails section on the Forum, not simply a tag, which may not always be added by the poster and may not be something Tails users may discover.
A new section for open discussion on Tails is long overdue.
Yes, I realize there are options on Tails’ website for support, but these are all private e-mail addresses for lone support rather than documented, in the open support channels. Tails users could head to their chat, if they only knew how to set it up, which isn’t always easy for users.
Other than Reddit’s /r/tails subreddit,[1] there is no good PUBLIC area for Tails discussion, sorry but the tag just isn’t enough. In the past when I brought this up in various off-forum areas there seems to be some type of hushed reason for non-public Tails discussions, especially archived mailing lists (and now the forum).
Please consider creating a new section on Tor Forums for Tails. Thank you.
[1] Which Tails users using TB and/or Tor Browser users cannot publically post to because Reddit shadowbans Tor users. You can merrily post all you want but your posts will not appear publically unless you message a mod and explain you’re shadowbanned and request approval for your post. Even then, if your post should be approved and brought to light, you face the difficulty of participating in further discussions unless you pester the mods for every post you wish to make. If you login via clearnet without Tor, you probably won’t notice any shadowbanning. This is a problem which has gone on for a long time now and people have discussed at /r/tor and /r/tails as well as other subreddits.
The bottom line: Reddit is not a good place for Tor/Tails discussion IF you intend to post with an account made/used with Tor.
We recognize the need to harmonize user support (and mutual aid) channels for Tails & other Tor products. We plan to work on this later this year. Please bear with us as we are still busy taking care of other aspects of the Tor/Tails merge
