Install Tails from Debian or Ubuntu Tutorial Issue

Hello Folks,

I am trying to install Tails on USB from my freshly installed Ubuntu machine. I was following this tutorial: Install Tails from Debian or Ubuntu but on the first step, Verify the Tails signing key when I try to verify the signing keys I am not seeing a signature from Chris Lamb. I am also trying to import all Debian contributors and check for any of them, but nothing happens, I am only getting self-signed values.

I wrote to the support, but they sent me a link to a known issue, and it required me to have account in Gitlab, so I couldn’t open it.

Anybody knows about that known issue and how to manage it?

The Tails contributors are active on GitLab so I recommend setting up the GitLab account. I did the same thing to help debug set up questions for macOS.

Did you follow their instruction to:

To request an account, contact foundations [at] tails [dot] net. Tell us the username and email address you want to use for that account.

I am guessing that I can’t just get my personal GitLab account and login. They need to provide me with an account

Yup. That sounds familiar from when I did it earlier this year. If I remember correctly they created my account in a few days.

Yes, that’s been the usual flow for the Tails GitLab for a while: it’s not just a regular public sign-up where any GitLab.com account automatically works. They often need to create/approve an account on their own GitLab instance.

For the signing-key issue itself, I’d also suggest replying to Tails support and saying you can’t access the linked issue yet, asking them to either paste the relevant workaround or help with GitLab access. They should be able to point you to the current expected key/signature verification steps without requiring you to guess.
