How to maximize Relay contribution?

I am looking for guidance on how to maximize my positive impact on the Tor network via operating a Guard/Middle Relay.

Assuming I have a fixed budget of 20-30 euro per month, how would I contribute the most effectively

  • Rent a dedicated Kimsufi server at OVH (French IP) with 500 Mbps unmetered
  • Rent 4 x VPS-1 at OVH (French IP) with 400 Mbps shared unmetered each
  • Rent 4 VPS at Racknerd (German IP) with 40 TB metered traffic each month per VPS (6 CPU - 8 GB ram)
  • Rent 4-5 x VPS at more obscure providers in Poland/Ukraine with 5 TB metered traffic each month per VPS (1 CPU - 1 GB Ram each). The providers would be selected to ensure independence from the already oversupplied hosting providers (cf. OVH/etc).

Given that I already rent the dedicated and 1 VPS-1 at OVH I have also uploaded the YABS for reference.

Feel free to give any suggestions if you consider another option to be even better.

Thanks!

Thanks for running Tor relays.

As you probably know, it is currently recommended that you avoid OVH to reduce the impact of a single provider outage.

While bandwidth is important, you could have a bigger impact on the Tor network by using the more obscure providers you mentioned, provided they allow you to run Tor relays.

Thank you for your reply!

I will proceed with using different providers (Netcup / Racknerd for those interested) in order to contribute to network diversity.
