High CPU usage when using bridges on Ubuntu 24.10

  • Operating System you are using: Ubuntu 24.10, Kubuntu to be precised
  • Tor Browser version: 14.0.4
  • Tor Browser Security Level: Standard
  • Step by step of how you got to the issue, so we can reproduce it: First, make sure “I use a proxy to connect” is not ticked (I use that option cause I live in a place where I can’t connect to Tor directly). Then choose a bridge. Any bridge.
  • The Tor log: it just says “Application request when we haven't used client functionality lately. Optimistically trying known bridges again”. IPv6Traffic and PreferIPv6 are found on the executing command, despite I have no IPV6 access.

Plus I can’t connect to Tor via command line, the output says “Delaying directory fetches: No running bridges”, despite bridges are provided through the torrc file. The error would not appear on Ubuntu 24.04.

Same for me.
On any Ubuntu 24.10 no PluggableTransport works.
Tor hangs on “Delaying directory fetches: No running bridges” also to me for many many minutes. Meanwhile CPU goes 100%.

Tried lyredbird + obfs4 + webtunnel. All have the issue.
Not a “go” problem, i think, since i recompiled in the same machine the webtunnel client, no success :woman_shrugging:
Maybe a kernel problem. No dmesg errors or others in system logs.

On 24.04 they all work :woman_shrugging::woman_shrugging::woman_shrugging:
