Hidden Service Directory?

Hey guys,
maybe u can help me :).
What exactly is the HiddenServiceDir (HSDir)? First i thought, it is a type of relay which holds the IPs of all Entry Nodes. Also i thought, that the Discriptor of onion services are saved in the HSDirs.
But now i am reading the post of Set up an onion Service. This post talks about the HSDir directory, what is saved on my device?
