General SOCKS server error - tor misc error

Hi,

I am using the tor client version 0.4.8.11-1 on Ubuntu 18.04 to browse the internet.

I have noticed that around 40-50% of the time, when I try to browse using the SOCKS proxy, I receive a general SOCKS server error (SOCKS error code 0x01.) On a retry, the request works, so it does not indicate an internet problem.

When this occurs, the tor logs say that there is simply a misc errorwhen trying to create the connection, but I couldn’t find any more details on why.

I would appreciate help in trying to diagnose and fix the problem.
