Can't use search from address bar anymore

When I try, it does not connect to DDG, just sits there as if I had not pressed the return key.

Hi @Florida_Ted, welcome to the forum.

First of all can you confirm that when you open a new tab or window in Tor Browser it looks like the first screenshot below - i.e. in the address bar you see "Search with DuckDuckGo or enter address"?

Next, when you type some text in the address bar do you see the drop down window with "[your text] - Search with DuckDuckGo" (the default search engine) and optional search engines - i.e. like this?

When you hit return after doing the above, do you see the DDG search query in the address bar like this?

Finally, what happens if you type a DDG query directly into the address bar - e.g. "https://duckduckgo.com/q=zx" and hit return?
