on linux pc tor browser software every time i try to download a file or even “save image as “ will just close tor and not download the file, the issue remains after re-instalation
We need more details to understand what is happening. Can you tell us:
- What closes, exactly? Only the Save Image window or all the browser?
- Which Linux distribution (Ubuntu, Debian, Mint, …) and desktop environment (GNOME, XFCE, KDE, …) do you use? Which version?
- A sample of images you experience the issue with, so we can try to reproduce it? Does it happen with the Tor logo on https://www.torproject.org? The Picture of the day on Wikimedia Commons? The banner on GIMP 3.2 release notice?
thank you for responding - i am running Manjaro Linux gnome and i have download tor from the pamac software, every time i try to download something via tor or even click on an image and press save as, tor as an application closes this problem does not happen in brave private tabs with tor integration
here is an side tangent in the corner the minimize maximize and close is blank and the videos i have recorded was in toleration quality only has anyone else have this problem of a green tent and other problems i cant describe also when i was trying to upload the the video capture the same behavior happens that is why i am using braves tor tab, – here is the image and videos
I couldn’t reproduce the main issue with the latest version of the software. Can you specify the following?
- the version of Manjaro (paste the output of the following command:
lsb_release -ris) - the version of GNOME (paste the output of the command
gnome-shell --version) - the version of Tor Browser (check in
Help > About Tor Browser) - which security level you are using in Tor Browser (check in
Settings > Privacy & Security > Security > Security Level)
Also, please provide a link to a page where you experience the issue consistently.
This is more difficult to investigate. I’d rather reproduce and understand the issue when downloading images before trying to deal with this.
This I could reproduce, but may be related or not.
thank you for responding
- ManjaroLinux 26.0.4
- GNOME Shell 49.5
- tor 15.0.10
- tor standard
the problem i am having is that i am when i download something from tor like s mod from moddb or one shot video editing software or even on ddg search up something and go into the images tab and right click on a photo and click save as, tor browser closes and, it also display this problem when i try to upload a file like when i attempted to upload the previous image
I’m sorry for an additional side tangent but has anyone experience the green hue and visual artifact when recording, i don’t know what software i am using but it comes with Manjaro
here is a link that will bring you to eternal hosting where you can watch the captured video that shows the first problems i don’t know what happen to the second one
Okay, today I could reproduce the issue. On my device it looks like there is some issue with image processing, but I couldn’t investigate further.
It would be very useful if you could share a Tor Browser log until the crash. But consider that it will contain some details about your system.
You can generate the log trying to download an image after starting Tor Browser with this command:
./start-tor-browser.desktop --verbose --log ~/any/path/tor.log
Of course it must be run from Tor Browser installation path, which in my virtual machine is ~/.local/share/torbrowser/tbb/x86_64/tor-browser.
thank you for your helpfulness and your response
if anything i can say i am more Linux proficient
here is the log file download for trying to download something off moddb, tomorrow or in the next few days i will give logs for file upload and image save as if you think it is importent
i am using -
-
ManjaroLinux 26.1.0-pre
-
GNOME Shell 50.1
-
tor 15.0.13
-
tor standard
my problem is that every time i try to upload or download or image save as on tor desktop, the tor process on its own closes it self instead of preforming the download or upload this problem has persisted on re-installations ans updates on tor and the OS for example
- i go to moddb and download a mod it closes
- on Duckduckgo i search up an image and right click and press image save as it closes
- i upload the log or to eternal hosting files to the forum it closes
those reasons are why i am using brave with tor integrations to type this
and also i am sorry for essentially reposing about an issue, my only defense is that the person may of not of gotten my reply
and also also this is not meant to be mean and is only intended to be constructive criticism to the forum, when uploading a file please accept .log extension and also please don’t block the posting of eternal hosting links it was helpful until i couldn’t post it
Linking back to the original post: Can't save images, let’s keep the discussion there.
I hope I can keep up more than the last few weeks.
Sorry for being silent so long, I couldn’t reply earlier.
It looks like the issue is due to some missing dependency for image handling in GTK. I did some research, but I couldn’t understand what an “image loader” exactly is in GTK jargon, only that it is related to image decoding. I instaled glycine-related packages, to no avail.
However, the version of Tor Browser downloaded from the Tor Project’s website works well. Thus, I suppose the issue is introduced by the Manjaro package: I recommend you get in touch with whoever maintains it.
It is possible to use Tor Browser as a SOCKS 5 proxy server at the port 9150 and the ip adress 127.0.0.1 for Mozilla Firefox web browser, and upload all files tou need, using this web browser. But using Tor Browser as a proxy server for another programm, such as any web browser, decreases anonimity.
wow i probably should of had more patience thank you both
i found out a way to fix my problem as seen in
the way to fix the problem is to download the tor browser from the official site and then uncompressed the folder, in the folder right click and press “open in console” and paste “./start-tor-browser.desktop --register-app” it will place an Tor Icon in “show apps” from there i pin to dock
the reason why is that the things i did in tor didn’t work in the version provided by the package manager in manjaro gnome like uploading files, downloading files, saving an image file, and watching videos from the “tube” sites these problems were consistent and always never work
if you experience a problem just paste the following in a “open in console” in the tor folder and make a folder in documents named “log”
./start-tor-browser.desktop --verbose --log /home/[account name]/Documents/log/tor.log
