Can't install Tor on Linux Mint 22

Hi all. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m completely new to Linux (though Mint is amazingly friendly out of the box) and im trying to install Tor , to move my bridge there from my Win 10 laptop, but i cant get it to, and i dont know what to do, please help. :worried:

Codename of the distro is wilma.

First i tried what you see in the left terminal. Then, what is in the right terminal, but that got me nowhere too.

What must i do?

There are no packages in Tor’s repositories for Wilma (see Index of /torproject.org/dists). Since Mint is either based on Debian or Ubuntu, I’d use the codename it is based on.

Since you are using Linux Mint 22 and not Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE 6), it should be based on Ubuntu 24.04, codename Noble.

However, Tor hasn’t released a version of little-t-tor (the Tor network daemon) for Ubuntu 24.04 yet. See Trouble adding tor repo to ubuntu noble (24.04 LTS) - #2 by capole.

Furthermore, note that in the documentation, commands start with ‘#’. The command is meant to be run as root. If you want to use sudo, that’s alright. Just prepend a sudo right after the pipe followed by tee.

A sudo at the beginning will just have effect on the first command, and not on the rest that are piped.
