I operate a few relays.
My main server is with hetzner which I run a tor relay on. As mentioned on the mailing list, others have experienced too where hetzner automated systems flag the server for being used for netscanning.
The first one I received was a few months ago and was resolved generally quickly. This current one which I got yesterday seems longer as nobody is working at hetzner currently due to their leave period until the 29th. I received the ticket outside of their working hours on the 24th. My IP could be blocked if not resolved by the 27th as stated in their email. Their auto check link is failing to work. I’m thinking that this means I’m probably fucked and won’t be able to provide the other services I do off this server with a few days of downtime which will negatively affect my reputation and probably get me delisted by a few software projects I do mirroring for.
The alleged netscan is basically the same as the one I got a few months ago and is the same kind of thing listed in the forum post I linked above with mine going to 64.65.62.0/24 (1st Amendment Encrypted Openness LLC) which are all tor relays. If I get any downtime, I will see what legal action I can take if any but I would prefer to just get some compensation and then stop running a tor relay on hetzner which is probably what they are wanting me to do and I have no choice. Beware tor relay operators. Hetzner doesn’t look so safe. This report is the dumbest experience I have ever had with a hosting provider.
Edit: 26/12/2025
I had my IP locked for about 10 hours on Christmas day which was fun. I was in contact and got it resolved and shouldn’t be an issue. The actualy abuse report isn’t closed though so it might get locked again tomorrow around 2 pm. I only had the network abuse team close a report which wasn’t the same thing. It turned out to be also partly to do with my torrent client looking for local peers which looked suspicious. Majority of log was however 443 to a tor family which due to the sequential nature looked very suspicious.
