A couple quick questions about running multiple bridges

Good morning all. :slightly_smiling_face:

As the title says , i want to spin up a couple more bridges on my Mint desktop, because with just one my setup is underutilised.

  1. Do i use completely different keys for each one or do i reuse something?

  2. If i get it right, i dont use the “My Family” for bridges, correct?

  3. Need i use different ORPort/obfs4 port for each one?

Thanks in advance. :slightly_smiling_face:

I know that this is not an answer to your question, but if you have the bandwidth and system specs for multiple bridges, why not run a middle node? It recieves almost 0 abuse complaints in its lifetime, and only needs to maintain 2 hrs uptime a day.

Hi @Arte, it’s important to run only one bridge per IPv4 address.
Exposing the same IP across different bridge distributors increases the risk of your bridge being blocked more quickly by censors, so we discourage operators from running multiple bridges on the same IP.

To address your specific questions:

Do i use completely different keys for each one or do i reuse something?

Yes, you should use different keys for each bridge.

If i get it right, i dont use the “My Family” for bridges, correct?

Correct. The MyFamily is not used for bridges.

Need i use different ORPort/obfs4 port for each one?

Yes, each bridge should have its own ORPort and OBFS4 port.

Because my train of thought was, to help the most by aiding ppl to circumvent censorship, because censorship is downright fascism.

But as @gus pointed out, running multiple bridges in the same ip (to make the most of available resources) would defeat the purpose of running a bridge in the first place, hence i rotated to a middle/guard relay.

Will give it a few days to see how much it ramps up and proceed accordingly with more instances.
