[tor-relays] Re: Tor Metrics Country Error

Unfortunately things like this happen and are unavoidable.
GeoIP databases are provided on a best-effort basis and these databases
can get out of date quite quickly. I assume this will get fixed sooner
or later automatically, once the GeoIP provider updates it and
metrics.torproject.org pulls in the updated.

There are also a few interesting "false" positives. For example, there
are three relays with the country being "European Union" and in the past
there have also been relays with Antarctica listed as their country,
which is interesting in the sense that both entities are not traditional
countries or associated territories in the sense of international law.

One of my relays (azadisrvbasic) is being listed on tor metrics as being in the United States of America but it is in the United Kingdom of Gread Britain and Northern Ireland. Could this be corrected please.

Hey,

If you can do a traceroute and WHOIS on your IP address that shows the
correct country you should file a bug report at the IPFire location
database. I came up with a similar problem a couple of weeks ago and
asked the same question. Mine is showing NL instead of JP while the ip
is clearly from Japan according to WHOIS and a traceroute.

Here’s mine: 13971 – IP range resolves to incorrect location - Tor Metrics (NL instead of JP)

You should file a bug report, mine is still not assigned. If you’re
lucky you will get a fast response…

Kind regards,

Dennis Bronk.
