  • Delete default profile created during first run.
  • Create a new profile and launch the browser again.

Thank you. .!

PS. Version 14.5.8 does not have such issues.

Hi @onecookie, welcome to the forum and thanks for reporting this.

I have managed to (nearly) replicate this behavior and it does look like a bug. When in fact I try and create a new profile from about:profiles Tor Browser crashes. I’d suggest the following:-

Firstly it is probably not a good idea to delete your default profile (step 5 above) before you’ve created a new one - I’m surprised this is actually possible. Firefox (& thus Tor Browser) can be flaky with profiles and the message you are seeing means it can’t find your default profile directory.

To fix this you ought to be able to start Tor Browser with a specific, named profile by running C:\Users\Example\Tor Browser\Browser\firefox.exe -P <profile name>

If you deleted the default one (named “default”) try using the name you gave to the new profile you created in step 6 above. If you can’t remember what you called it look in \Tor Browser\Browser\TorBrowser\Data\Browser for the directory named <8 random letters>.. The suffix is the profile name. If all else fails delete your Tor Browser directory and re-download Tor Browser.

I have sometimes had to get Firefox to ‘reset’ its default profile. After starting Firefox with a named profile navigate to about:profiles, as above, and click the “Restart normally” button. This usually fixes the error you are seeing (screenshot). The same ought to work with Tor Browser.
