I think this could help a bit with the censorship circumvention as the traffic will blend in better with standard WebRTC traffic and generally every other traffic. It is rather unusual for connections to use such high ports.
That being said I do not think it makes an enormous difference in practice, but it’s better nevertheless. And I think I am observing more clients from China since the chance, but I’m not 100% sure on that one since I am just sporadically checking the /internal/metrics page, but never save them anywhere so I have no data to compare.
Could just be a person in a country where internet is highly censored and is having a Tor VPN running to keep connected to the world. Messenger and mail-client for example…
Would understand if you turn it of for 7+ hours because you want the person to get enough sleep, but even this would be against my strict non-interference policy. Let the individual decide, donations should not be conditional, especially if I do not know what is happening on the other side of the connection. And tor is designed like you can’t and shouldn’t know…
This is a bit off topic but I’m finally seeing 11 connections which was my - capacity. I was worried I did something wrong since I could not get past 7… and most are from Iran.
I think you mis-understood my comment about me sleeping. It was only a comment on that session. It is not automated. I don’t sit in front of a terminal monitoring this. It only occurs when I do check now and then. I miss many 7+ hour sessions especially if I’m busy doing other things which is most of the time.
Agreed totally!
Let them get their email and Messenger but let others get theirs also. They are just as important so don’t be selfish and jam the elevator door.
I don’t know what they do and don’t want to know. I do know that Tor has a bad reputation and is used for all kinds of illegal activity.
You have your strict non-interference policy and I have my policy of do not abuse.
We will never see eye-to-eye on this.
Remember, I don’t have to the run a proxy. I do it because I want to… well I was convinced to do so last year.
