I install tails on USB drive. It works fine on my other laptop but doesn’t works on my msi (modern14 b11mo) laptop. I cannot find USB that has tails in BIOS. In short my laptop doesn’t recognize USB that has tails on it. Any solutions? Thank you.
The only thing I can think of is when the MSI laptop is booted to its OS (Linux or Windows) does it “see” the USB drive.
I have a recent MSI laptop and a test Tails 7.18 (or something) and can see it in the BIOS but did not boot it. It’s an older USB 2.0. I followed the exact instructions when I created the TailsOS.
I tried to boot it from my USB 3.2 and also from my USB 2.0. But It doesn’t boot tails up. It always boot window again and again.
OK, but what I wanted to know was when booted to Windows does the laptop “see” the USB key when you plug it in afterward.
As in: Right Click->Start/Disk Management
I have not booted the key but in the meantime some AI told me:
To access the boot menu on an MSI laptop, press the “F11” key repeatedly as soon as you turn on the laptop. This will allow you to select the boot device and perform other boot-related operations.

yes I saw my USB has tails in Disks & volumes.
To go to BIOS menu. My laptop (Modern 14 B11MO) need to shut down, press the “DELETE” key repeatedly as soon as I turn on the laptop. But In BIOS menu → boot. I don’t see my tails USB in it.
I tried to solve it for days now. I had ask AI. Do what it say. But still my tails USB doesn’t show up in BIOS menu → boot.
In Choose an option → Use a device → USB Entry for Windows To Go. Don’t “see” my tails USB.
Your MSI and mine are about identical. I have the 15 A11MU version. The difference is a USB 3.0 type A port. And I tested with a Tails 7.18. At powerup I hit the F11 key repeatedly and it offers a USB key to boot and of course the SSD. I did not boot the USB. Just wanted to see what options it offered.

I see exactly what you see.
Try the F11 key repeatedly at boot just to see. Yours does see a USB Hard Disk. Maybe it is a bit mixed up with the title. If it’s the only USB key inserted, what else can it be.
I don’t know. When I try to boot from USB that shown. It will just goes back to boot window.
Correction. My TailsOS is 7.6.1
OK, I am able to boot the USB. It gave me a hard time about the MAC anonymization for wlan. Had to turn it off to connect by WiFi.
I’m out of ideas also.
On my In UEFI USB Hard Disk Drive BBS Priorities → Boot Option #3 I see Lexar (my tailsOS).
So what is Windows To Go.
My boot option #1 is the SSD Windows boot manager and my USB drive is boot option #3
What version of TailsOS? I would try to create the latest TailsOS on a new USB key. How did you create it?
My version is 7.8.1 (Latest version).

I did some research.
“Windows To Go”, which is what you see as your Boot option #1, is something Microsoft had invented so you could carry a Windows on a USB stick when you are on the go and boot it on any computer. Same idea as Tails.
When you took that picture above which said “Windows To Go” in Boot option #1, what was connected on any USB port. I assume TailsOS.
When there is nothing in any USB port what does that picture look like? I assume nothing in Boot option #1.
I can only conclude that the MSI boots Windows because it boots a “Windows To Go” disk. Your regular Windows or the Windows To Go? Why the old computer can boot Tails from a “Windows To Go” disk is a mystery.
I created mine using Rufus.
