I just started out and my first project was to boot TailsOS. My Goal is to learn more about opsec and security in genal. Now I am looking for secure applications that I should use and already discovered Pidgin. Is there an AI that is private to some extent without the need of local AI? And if you have general tips I would be glad to have some help
Start by defining your threat model and understanding what data you actually output as this is the foundation that will guide everything else. Once you know who you’re protecting against and what information they’re gaining, you’ll have a clear path forward in your hobby. There’s a lot of information online about security and privacy out there, but there’s also plenty of fearmongering mixed in. Having a threat model defined, knowing who you are aiming to be secure against, and by how much, protects you from getting caught up in unnecessary panic and helps you focus on what actually matters for your situation and interest.
The good news is that Tails OS comes with a bunch of applications already installed, with pretty good security. Maybe it is worth trying to understand what’s already there.
When it comes to AI, DuckDuckGo’s duck.ai seems to be a much more private option compared to something like ChatGPT, and it’s not locally hosted! For the best privacy, it’s probably best to use it over Tor. Beyond that, I don’t have much knowledge of other solid private AI alternatives tbh.
For general tips, it’s worth studying up on metadata and how Tor works in general. These are two fun topics imo.
