I run an obfs4 bridge over a residential ip. In torrc I have AccountingMax = 100GB and AccountingStart = month 1 00:00.
On the last day of June the bridge hit the 100GB mark and hibernated. On July 1 at 05:00 it came out of hibernation. All log messages looked normal and bridge appeared functional; inspecting it with nyx, everything seemed fine. However, the bridge wasn’t carrying any traffic.
I started tor browser on a different machine and tried to connect to the network via my bridge, but the connection failed. I tried a couple more times just to confirm; then I reconfigured the browser to not use my bridge and was able to immediately connect. Tried connecting one more time via the bridge, still failed, so I then logged in to the host device and restarted the bridge service (e.g. “service restart torbridge”). Logging was all normal, bridge came up, reported being reachable. Went back over to the tor browser and verified I could now connect via my bridge.
So my question is, has anyone else seen this type of failure, where a bridge hibernated due to hitting the account limits, and then failed to wake up successfully? Anything I can or should do to try to track this down more definitively? Or is it probably just a one-off?
